Strategy Games for the Patient
Mobile strategy has a reputation problem, mostly from games built around timers and nagging you to come back. But there's a quieter corner of the genre that's genuinely great, and Tideborn Command lives there.
What makes these work on a phone is the ability to pause and think. You're never punished for stepping away mid-decision. That turns the bus ride or the waiting room into prime strategy time instead of a stressful rush.
The trade-off is pace. These games ask you to read a map, weigh supply and position, and accept that a single turn might take real thought. If you want constant action, look elsewhere. If you like a slow-building plan, you're in for a treat.
I'd suggest easing in with the campaign rather than jumping into skirmishes. The good ones teach their systems one at a time, and rushing past that just leaves you frustrated.
