Ember of Vale
Ember of Vale is a small-studio RPG that respects your time. Battles are turn-based and quick, party management is clear, and you never drown in menus. But underneath the simplicity there's a proper progression system where every companion feels different to build.
The story caught me off guard. It starts as a standard 'leave your village' setup and slowly turns into something quieter and sadder about people you leave behind. The writing is restrained, which makes the emotional beats land harder. I kept playing past the point where I'd normally put a mobile RPG down.
Combat rewards planning over grinding. You can beat most fights with the right order of actions rather than raw levels, and the handful of tough bosses pushed me to rethink my whole party. It respects your intelligence, and that's rare on mobile.
What we liked
- Snappy turn-based battles with real strategy
- Writing that actually earns its emotional moments
- Characters build in meaningfully different ways
